Boris is Figaro's gardener and handyman. He's a hulk of a man but his menacing exterior hides a sensitive soul.
His vocabulary is limited to grunts and snorts, though these convey great meaning. Boris is blessed with a green thumb and can make anything grow.
However his life is blighted by a terrible curse: body odor of the vilest kind. So powerful is this stench that it almost exists on its own.
Dotty is the shortsighted old lady who runs the corner store, and whose kindly, grandmotherly exterior hides the penny-pinching heart of a miser.
To supplement her income, Dotty fulfils a number of other important functions in the town. She is its doctor, dentist and runs a little toy factory in her basement.
Figaro is Dotty's favorite customer as he is too fearful to protest when she cheats him.
Cornelius is the long-suffering mailman. Every day he makes the long climb up the steep hill to Figaro's door to deliver packages – some bulky, some heavy and some just plain weird.
In every episode Cornelius is the fall guy – the victim of the vile substances, falling objects and improbable creatures and forces that result from Figaro's constant battles with his fears.
Figaro Pho is a wonderfully eccentric character, warmhearted, curious and imaginative, but afflicted with a daunting array of phobias that constantly bring terror to his quiet life.
An engineering genius, Figaro has built a mechanical pet he calls Rivet. Figaro's fears put him in all sorts of bizarre situations, and often his solution to get out of this is more dangerous than his original fear.
Rivet is Figaro's mechanical dog, created as a result of Figaro's fear of isolation.
He has all of a puppy's energy – and most of a puppy's annoying habits. Rivet is a loyal, faithful companion and Figaro's best friend.
He's also an invaluable aid in Figaro's adventures: Rivet has an unlimited supply of gadgets and tools that come out of his back. You could say Rivet is the dog version of a Swiss-Army knife.
Figaro's teenage neighbor Juliet is passionate about all forms of art. She sings, dances, plays the violin, paints and writes poetry.
Unfortunately, Juliet is talentless. But this doesn't stop her from believing that she will one day be a star of something...
The moment Figaro laid eyes on Juliet he fell in love, but unfortunately Juliet is most of the time completely oblivious to Figaro's adoration.
The hallway of Figaro's house is lined with portraits of his extended family.
Figaro does not remember many of his relatives but he knows a great deal about them through studying their portraits. All the Pho family members disappeared under bizarre circumstances.
Though the portraits strongly suggest a fatal outcome, it is never certain if these Phos actually died, which means they may one day reappear.
